History of Crawford Publications
Crawford Publications is the trading name of the company BA Crawford Specialised Publications (Pty) Ltd. the premier publisher of metalworking related manufacturing business to business publications in South Africa – providing unique, one-of-a-kind, relevant information of keen interest to the people who are involved in mechanical and general engineering.
Crawford Publications was founded in July 1998 (as BA Crawford Specialised Publications (Pty) Ltd) in Bryanston, Gauteng, South Africa with the introduction of Online Engineering Newsletter. This newsletter, as the title suggests, comprised general news and product related news on the metalworking industry in South Africa. Published every alternative week the newsletter was emailed to 4 500 individual personal email addresses at companies involved in manufacturing. The components of the newsletter provided the reader links to expand the articles in full, links to websites and email addresses as well as contact details.
In April 2000 Crawford Publications launched its first business to business hard copy publication, Castings SA. This publication, which is the official mouthpiece of the South African Institute of Foundrymen, is published six times a year in the even months i.e. February, April, June, August, October and December.
The content covers the technology, processors and materials field for manufacturing and the use of castings. Readers include foundrymen, castings engineers, tool and die makers, component manufacturers and users, automotive suppliers, heat treatment companies, patternmakers, suppliers to the industry and related industry personnel and fraternal associations. These include SASSDA, NAACAM, CDASA, TASA and AFSA.
In March 2002 Crawford Publications launched Metalworking News, a specialised business to business publication covering the technology, processors and materials field for the metalworking engineering industry.
Metalworking News is the premier engineering publication dedicated to the task of bringing you significant developments in the methods and practices of metalworking, including cutting, forming, metal removal, tooling, materials, robotics, CAD/CAM, quality assurance, cleaning and finishing, and other plant operations.
Published every second month in the odd months i.e. January, March, May, July, September and November it includes regular columns such as Industry News, Shopfront Focus, Better Production, International News, Product Review and Viewpoint. In addition, the journal will keep your calendar up-to-date on professional conferences, trade shows, and training sessions.
Metalworking News reaches metalworking plants of all sizes – from small job shops to OEMs and component manufacturers creating individual parts, assemblies, or large scale structures. The publication takes a decidedly “shop floor” point of view in its coverage of topics related to machining, metalworking and shop management. Readers include members of SASSDA, NAACAM, SAIME, CDASA, AFSA, TASA and fraternal associations.
