Sections
Editor’s comment: This section features an article where the Editor gives an opinion on a subject
Cover story: The style of the publication allows for an editorial story and pictures of what is displayed on the front cover.
Industry News: Each issue of Castings SA includes general information about what is happening in the castings and manufacturing fields in South Africa. These include success stories – people like to hear about successful companies i.e. big sales, new clients, new export orders, SABS/ISO, unusual projects and or component/s manufactured.
International News: Everybody likes to keep abreast of what is happening internationally in the field of manufacturing castings. Newsworthy information includes company mergers, relocations, expansions, acquisitions and agreements as well as unique activities, projects and future exhibitions.
Foundry Focus: The publication takes a decidedly “shop floor” point of view in its coverage of companies involved in the metalworking industry. Essentially the article is a company profile. These articles are restricted to focusing on the readers of the magazine.
Product Review: Is what it says. This section includes information and pictures about new and useful products from suppliers in the castings, foundry and manufacturing fields.
Editorial submission guidelines
Before writing or developing an article, it’s best to contact Crawford Publications about six months before the issue in which you would like it to appear. Editorial coverage is not guaranteed, even if you are an advertiser. The Editor reserves the right to publish or not publish any article.
Most feature articles are written by the editor or expressly solicited from industry experts. News items are what they are and will be selected by the editor.
When submitting an article think, “What can I teach?” The very best subject matter for submitted articles is something that teaches the reader how to solve a problem in the shop, rather than company-profile or new-product brochures.
Editing
Castings SA reserves the right to edit any editorial submissions for content and to conform to our style guide. Any article that needs to be credited will be done so and any original article written by the Editor will be submitted to the person/s interviewed to check for facts only. Copyright of these articles will be vested in the publication. Permission will be given to use the article and pictures elsewhere only once it has been published in Castings SA or any sister publications.
Editorial format
Feature articles, news and product releases should be submitted as Microsoft Word (.doc) documents. Tables, graphs, photographs and other illustrations must be separate files, rather than incorporated or embedded within the text document.
Images
Images should be in .jpg or .tif file formats with minimum 300-dpi resolution. All photographic materials must be clear, sharp, in-focus and properly exposed. Captions should be provided for each photograph, and each photograph should be identified. We don’t publish a photograph supplied to us with a caption already embedded into it.
